Certification bodies in exports procedures 

In each country, several independent and accredited certification bodies allow companies to certify their products before export. In France, there are about 60 who specialize in various fields. It may be a laboratory if it is a certification of the composition and quality of a product, or a verification body if it is a certification relating to the external appearance of a product or its packaging. It can also be a certification of stages of a manufacturing process for a given product. 

Some certifications are not mandatory before exporting a product. They are just another guarantee of quality that the company can claim. On the other hand, certifications such as CE certification for the European market, UL certification for the USA, and CCC certification for the Chinese market are mandatory for product entry into the EU, USA, or China. But these certifications do not cover all products – some are exempt. 

CE certification was created under European legislation. It represents the conformity of a product with the Community requirements incumbent on the manufacturer of the product. It must be affixed before a product is placed on the European market. As for the CCC certification, (China Compulsory Product Certification), it aims to protect consumers and people by ensuring that products on sale in the Chinese market meet international standards. It has been in effect since August 2003. The products concerned are listed on the site of the Chinese Quality Certification Center. They are divided into about twenty categories, including electrical equipment, medical devices, toys, computer equipment, etc. 

Certification bodies play a crucial role in international trade because they are, in a sense, the guardians of the national market and provide consumers with a standard for quality from imported products.
